Privacy & Security
What you read says a lot about you, so Lion Reader is built to keep it private. There are no ads, your data is never sold, and there are no ad trackers anywhere in the app. The hosted site counts page views without cookies, recording only the kind of page you opened, never which feed or article. Your reading activity, newsletters, and saved articles are used only to run the app for you, like keeping your read and starred articles in sync across your devices.
About analytics
Page counts go to GoatCounter without loading any tracking script, and report only the kind of page — an article list, an article, a settings page. Self-hosted copies send nothing unless whoever runs them sets up their own analytics.
To find and fix bugs, the hosted site also sends error reports to Sentry. The page addresses in those reports can show which article was open; the privacy policy has the details.
AI features like summaries send an article to an AI provider only when you use them. The privacy policy describes the outside services Lion Reader uses and what each one receives.
Signing In
Sign in with an email and password, or with an account you already have, like Google or Apple — signing in with Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture, not your inbox. You can see every device you’re signed in on — with its browser and when it was last active — and sign any of them out instantly. You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings at any time.
Controlling What Has Access
When you connect a browser extension, an AI assistant, or the Discord bot, it gets only the access it needs — a save button can save articles but can’t read your feeds. You can see when each connection was last used and revoke it at any time, and API tokens you create for your own scripts can be set to expire.
Safe from Harmful Pages
Articles come from all over the web, so Lion Reader cleans every one before showing it to you. Formatting and images stay, but anything that could run code in your browser is removed.
